What is the NBA thinking?  They're laying off 80 people - 9% of their workforce - due to the down economy.

Now as a businessman I understand maintaining and/or increasing profitability - but I am about to say something I never thought I would say: Given the state of the country, and organization like the NBA has a social responsibility not to do this.

It's all about maximizing profits, and not at all about maintaining profitability.  Can anyone honestly say that without this layoff the NBA will lose money this year?
