    I found this funny

I think this is why I prefer dogs over cats.  Wish I could claim originality but it was sent to me, and I thought it clever enough to share.

Also, I know this is a bit off the beaten path here, but when I find something clever I like to pass it on.  Enjoy!

11:00 pm - Sleeping on the bed! My favorite thing!

    Excerpts from a Cat's Diary:
    Day 683 of my captivity:
My captors continue to taunt me with bizarre little dangling objects.
They dine lavishly on fresh meat, while the other inmates and I are fed
hash or some sort of dry nuggets. Although I make my contempt for the
rations perfectly clear, I nevertheless must eat something in order to  keep
    up my strength.
The only thing that keeps me going is my dream of escape. In an  attempt
to disgust them, I once again vomit on the floor.
Today I decapitated a mouse and dropped its headless body at their  feet.
I had hoped this would strike fear into their hearts, since it clearly
demonstrates of what I am capable. However, they merely made  condescending
comments about what a "good little hunter" I am. The audacity!
There was some sort of assembly of their accomplices tonight. I was
placed in solitary confinement for the duration of the event. However,  I
could hear the noises and smell the food. I overheard that my  confinement
was due to the power of "allergies." I must learn what this means, and  how
to use it to my advantage.
Today I was almost successful in an attempt to assassinate one of my
tormentors by weaving around his feet as he was walking. I must try  this
again tomorrow -- but at the top of the stairs.
I am convinced that the other prisoners here are flunkies and  snitches.
The dog receives special privileges. He is regularly released - and  seems
to be more than willing to return. He is obviously retarded!
The bird must be an informant. I observe him communicating with the
guards regularly. I am certain that he reports my every move. My  captors
have arranged protective custody for him in an elevated cell, so he is  safe
    ... for now.

    Latest Vista impressions

I figure it's time to make a few comments on my latest Vista impressions.  I've been back on it for about a week now on my shiny new Thinkpad Tablet PC.  I have to say that there are some really great improvments to the Tablet functions, including but not limited to better inking, character recognition, and improved input panel support.  overall they really had the Tablet form factor in mind when working on this stuff.

Also worth noting: the improvements to sleep.  Now first let me state that it's still ain't a Mac.  My MacBook Pro suspend and resumes in about 5 seconds when I shut the lid.  On this one, it might take 15 seconds.  Now this is still an immense improvement over old versions of Windows.  And it probably has something to do with the OS being properly tweaked for the hardware, but this is good enough for me to actually use sleep all the time.

And it works really well.  For example, at the moment I'm onsite with a client pretty much 40 hours per week.  I use the laptop wirelessly on their network all day, shut the lid, wait about 15 seconds and put it into my bag.  When I get home and want to do some work, I open the cover, wait 10-15 seconds, slide my thumb over the reader, and I'm in.  Plus it finds my home wireless network quickly and efficiently, which is not simething I can say my old XP system did all the time.

So bottom line, at this point, Vista gets a cautious 'thumbs up' for the mobility improvements in my book!

    I'm Still Here!

Alive and kicking I suppose.  I can't even say I've been busy because everyone is, and it's just not a realistic excuse anymore.

Lots going on, but a few quick updates:

First, I've been negligent because of Windows Live Writer.  I know, blame the software, but in this case it's true: I had a whole bunch of entries that refused to upload for some reason.  i kept promising myself I'd manually copy them up some time, then wound up replacing a computer, then another replacement, and realized I'd lost them all.  DOH!  Well you didn't really miss much, other than some continued bitching about the Jets and Giants.

So, what system is this working on? It's a ThinkPad x60 tablet, and so far seems to work pretty well.  I'm hesitant though to endorse it, 'cause it's only been a few days and frankly I've had a bad track record.  My favorite system is still the MacBook Pro, but I finally aknowledge that for me, MacOS is too much of a hurdle - as a consultant and pretty much a Microsoft engineer, it's a bit tough to do everything I need from a Mac.  Even with Parallels (which if you ask me is over-hyped - the performance is pretty sucky no matter what you do unles you run it on a Mac Pro.  but I digress...).

Been on a large-scale full-time engagement with the University herein town.  That's been taking almost all of my time.

Oops, and just realized, I gotta run.  But hopefully, if Writer doesn't fail me again, I'll be posting more regularly.
