Giving the imitation iPod to the Apple VP. Who'd have thought it would get him upset? See this link for the full story I love the fact that other attendees asked him for help getting them to work with iTunes. 18 mai NetBook ThoughtsI find it interesting that so many seem to be jumping onto the NetBook bandwagon. See this article for example. The thing about NetBooks is they are probably a bit ahead of their time from a productivity (and thus revolution) standpoint. The main issues I see for netBooks are: 1. Cloud Computing isn't there yet. Sure it's getting better. I mean, at Protechnica we rely on cloud services for the bulk of our core infrastructure - I mean, why not? We have a distributed workforce that can leverage the cloud as well as anybody. But the core functions of a back end are not the same as the core needs of the front-end. And I don't care what anyone says, Google Apps isn't ready for prime time yet unless you only do very, very simple things with office, and don't share those things with any office users (or try to open their documents). 2. People aren't ready for thin computing on the client - yet. The same reasons that the NC failed miserably (that's Network Computer, see Sun and Oracle) will tend to hold thin client computing back for a while. See note 1 above. 3. Who wants to work below a certain resolution level? What I mean is, I don't think the processing power will turn out to be as significant a factor as the display. Working below a certain factor just isn't practical. I think you can work on a phone-level screen for some things, and a laptop-level screen resolution for others. And it's not like there's a 'happy medium' that is truly meaningfully productive in between there. Basically the stuff you are willing to do on a phone, you can continue to do even more happily on a NetBook, but the stuff you want a full-screened laptop for, well, you will still be unhappy on a netbook. |
